I wrote a piece for Utah Valley 360 this week and when I finished I just thought, “Yep. This is me.” And really, that’s one of the most satisfying feelings a writer can have. That’s what we’re trying to do over here—get paid to write things that make us feel like ourselves. It’s not an easy thing to achieve.
Not to toot my own horn, but the piece has gotten quite a bit of play online. I don’t think the term “viral” really applies here, but it’s probably the closest I’ve ever gotten, so let’s roll with it. IT WENT VIRAL! People laughed out loud when they read it, guys. That’s huge. Except for Trent, who refused to do anything but laugh in his heart, because of the “smug” look I had on my face as I read it aloud. He felt it his duty to keep me humble.
Now that I’ve talked it up to no end, here it is.
Many thanks to my brother-in-law, Tyler, who I bounced ideas off of at the BYU vs. Virginia game last week and to Mindy Kaling. Since reading her book, I feel like I’ve become a funnier person. Her book has magical powers.
